How do I hire a party entertainer?

Most people don't hire entertainment services for a party or event every day, unless you're a professional event planner. Maybe you got volunteered at work or your nonprofit organization to organize activities, and you don't know where to start.

First, if you see a service provider you like at an event, you can ask for their business card, or ask the event organizer to connect you with them. Otherwise, ask around to family and friends for a referral. A referral may be old-school, but it's still a great way to find someone with a solid reference. Try to avoid when someone suggests a personal friend or family member that "does face painting on the side" or "my daughter volunteered at her school fair" kind of referrals. Often times, these people may be limited in skill (and speed), and likely do not have professional supplies or insurace. There are always exceptions, but the best way to respond to those suggestions is to ask if they photo samples and what supplies they are using.

If you can't get a referral from someone you know, local parenting groups are normally filled with parents who are always eager to give you a referral of their favorite provider.

And of course, if you're a little antisocial, you can always do a GOOGLE search for "face painter near me" or "children's party entertainer near me". Check reviews, good and bad, and screen for authenticity. Make sure to review the Connecticut based entertainment company's website and see if they have pricing, to check out options in your budget and for your group size. I think that an honest business includes their pricing structure on their website.

In a world that where AI is so common, be aware that images may not be real. Look for artists that have a lot of samples available, and if they all look too perfect, it might not be authentic work. Make sure they have photos of balloon artists and face painters working with kids, and also shows what their setup and supplies look like.

Once you connect with the party entertainment company you would like to work with, ask them whatever questions are important to you. How do the artists dress? How long do they usually spend with each child? How much space do they need? Do they take a downpayment or require payment in full upfront?

A professional entertainment business should also provide you with a contract that outlines their polices like cancelation, downpayments, and replacement protocols. It should clearly state what the artist needs onsite to do their service efficiently.

I hope this helps you find a great party entertainment service for your event! Please feel free to email me if you have any questions that I haven't addressed
